NEW YORK: 49ERS CO-OWNER FEELING MORE AT EASE IN HIS ROLE

Now "unencumbered by the strained attachments to the
prior regime," 49ers co-Owner John York "appears infinitely
more comfortable" in his role with the team since the league
approved him and his wife -- co-Owner Denise DeBartolo York,
in May, according to Kevin Lynch of the S.F. EXAMINER. John
York "seems at home" in his office and now speaks about the
team without his "carefully measured responses and sometimes
dour tone." He said his goals for the team "are that we are
a good solid organization that's built on principle; that
we'll win football games; and that we will be recognized as
a good neighbor in the community." Lynch added that York
has given the 49ers' Foundation, established by former Owner
Eddie DeBartolo, "more teeth" and has "assembled an
impressive board" for it. Lynch: "These actions, much more
than York's words, appear as if he and Denise plan to be in
     place for a while" (S.F. EXAMINER, 11/19).
