THE AGENT WHO CRIED WOOLF: OCTAGON BUYS UP MLB BUSINESS

Octagon has acquired the baseball business of MA-based
Woolf Associates, which includes Blue Jays P David Wells and
Braves P Tom Glavine (THE DAILY). The SPORTSBUSINESS
JOURNAL's Liz Mullen notes that the deal "would be the
second major player agent acquisition in six weeks" by
Octagon, as it purchased NHL agency Kelly Management Group
last month. Woolf baseball agent Gregg Clifton will join
Octagon as Dir of its Baseball division. Mets P Turk
Wendell, Braves OF B.J. Surhoff, Reds C Benito Santiago and
Pirates P Kris Benson are also among Clifton's clients.
Octagon baseball agent Joe Urbon said that the deal with
Woolf would "roughly double the number of Octagon's" MLB
player clients to about 40 (SPORTSBUSINESS JOURNAL, 11/20).
