"The Power 100," the "men and women who rule" the Greater
Philadelphia area. Following are sports-related figures on
the list: Comcast Chair RALPH ROBERTS and President BRIAN
ROBERTS were listed at No. 9. Comcast-Spectacor CEO and
Flyers/76ers Chair ED SNIDER dropped from No. 20 to 26, as
PR "missteps" during the firing of Flyers coach ROGER
NEILSON and the feud with Flyers C ERIC LINDROS have "some
wondering if he's lost his touch." 76ers G ALLEN IVERSON is
No. 49, just ahead of 76ers President PAT CROCE at No. 50,
who has "amassed feel-good clout. ... He's become the city's
premiere booster." YankeeNets Partner LEWIS KATZ is listed
at No. 51 (PHILADELPHIA, 11/2000 issue).
OTHER NAMES: ESPN.com's Marc Stein proposes that the
U.S. name NBA Commissioner DAVID STERN as its next
President. Stein: "If you think Stern couldn't handle it,
think again. ... Stern is so involved [in league deals] that
he can even tell you names of broadcasters in Kazakhstan or
Djibouti. One of our real-life presidential finalists can't
even spell Kazakhstan" (ESPN.com, 11/15)....The NFL Flag
National Championships for boys and girls ages 10-14 will be
held this Saturday at Disney's Wide World of Sports Complex.
ESPN will tape the Finals for broadcast in December
(NFL)....ESPN's "NHL COOL SHOTS" reported how Stars C MIKE
MODANO began his MIKE MODANO FOUNDATION to help physically
and emotionally handicapped children. Reebok co-hosted the
first fundraising event, highlighted by a silent and live
auction. Reebok presented the foundation a check for
$10,000 ("NHL Cool Shots," 11/15).
