IS VIKINGS REALIGNMENT TIED TO TEAM'S UNCERTAIN FUTURE?

One of the NFL realignment proposals "currently under
discussion" would shift the Vikings from the NFC Central to
the NFC West, according to Kevin Seifert of the Minneapolis
STAR TRIBUNE, who writes that the "suggestion" is based
"partly on uncertainty surrounding the team's future" in MN.
Putting the Vikings in a division with the 49ers, Cardinals,
and Cowboys would "prevent further realignment" if the
Vikings "fail to secure a new stadium and subsequently
relocate," since L.A. and San Antonio are "generally
considered" the most "attractive" sites for a relocation.
Packers President Bob Harlan "confirmed" the proposal, and
"acknowledged concern" about the Vikings' "stalled" efforts
to get public financing for a new stadium. Harlan: "It
would concern me to put the Central together the way it is
now, which is the way everyone likes it best, and then in
five years have the Vikings in a stadium situation and no
longer be in Minnesota" (Minneapolis STAR TRIBUNE, 11/16).
