REEBOK'S RESURGENCE CONTINUES WITH STRONG THIRD QUARTER

MA-based Reebok posted 3Q earnings that topped Wall
Street expectations yesterday, and Reebok CEO Paul Fireman
declared the results "indicative of the resurgence of the
Reebok brand worldwide." The company said that third
quarter earnings "surged" more than 900% to $32.3M, or $0.56
cents per share, compared to $3.2M, or $0.06 cents per share
last year, when a $24.3M restructuring charge impacted
results (BOSTON HERALD, 10/27). While the company's total
revenue was down, CBS MarketWatch's Jennifer Waters wrote
that Reebok has "managed to eke out gains" because of its
"aggressive controls" on selling, general and administrative
costs. Reebok CFO Kenneth Watchmaker said that the company
is also "reaping the rewards" of retailers wanting more
independence from Nike (CBS MarketWatch, 10/26). First
Security Van Kasper analyst John Shanley: "Reebok is filling
a significant void of mid-priced shoes" (REUTERS, 10/26).
In early morning trading, Reebok was trading at $20.19, up
24.2% from Wednesday's close of $16.25 (THE DAILY).
