YASHIN FORCED TO PAY NHL'S LEGAL FEES OVER FAILED APPEAL

Ontario Court Justice Douglas Cunningham has ruled that
Senators C Alexei Yashin must pay C$27,649.39 in legal fees
incurred by the NHL when Yashin attempted to have a ruling
by an independent arbitrator overturned in an Ottawa
courtroom last month, according to Bruce Garrioch of the
OTTAWA SUN. The NHL was originally seeking C$46,000 from
Yashin for the court session. Yashin's agent Mark Gandler
said he was "thoroughly disgusted" by the ruling. Gandler:
"This ruling by the judges on legal fees just shows that
he's not willing to let [the Yashin case] go and the NHL
won't just let it go. I think everybody should just let it
go" (OTTAWA SUN, 10/26). In Toronto, Lance Hornby writes
the cost of the ruling is "not steep but the ruling is
ominous for Yashin's chances of avoiding paying" US$930,000
to Senators Chair Rod Bryden and the NHL, who are suing for
damages from his holdout (TORONTO SUN, 10/26).
