provide their fans with information via a variety of
wireless handheld devices, including mobile phones, pagers
and PDAs. The Redskins claim to be the first NFL team to
offer such a variety of wireless information for their fans.

NFL Commissioner Paul Tagliabue's recent visit to Silicon
Valley. The trip was Tagliabue's "way of emphasizing the
growing importance of the Internet and other interactive
media to the NFL." Tagliabue invited Bianco and a BUSINESS
WEEK photographer to accompany him, "underscoring the trip's
promotional purpose" (BUSINESS WEEK, 10/30 issue)....In
L.A., Greg Johnson examined the relationships between pro
leagues and sports Web sites, as execs at sports-oriented
sites are "scrambling to form online relationships with
powerful allies, trying to keep pace with rapidly evolving
technology." Meanwhile, few league execs "claim to know how
the ultimate online experience will look," and leagues are
"learning from experience what clicks with fans." Leagues
are also realizing that "such competitors as ESPN ... might
also be allies" in the online world (L.A. TIMES, 10/23).
