Redskins Owner Daniel Snyder has "asked for" privacy
for himself and his guests during TV broadcasts of Redskins
games, according to Thomas Heath of the WASHINGTON POST, who
reports that the Redskins have asked all the networks
covering their games not to use the booth "adjacent" to
Snyder's luxury box to film footage of the owner during the
game. Redskins Senior VP/PR Karl Swanson said Snyder's
"family and guests come there with the expectation of
privacy." Swanson: "Broadcasters are free to take pictures
from the field level or looking across the field. It's just
that closeup that we prefer they not shoot." Heath reports
that ABC Sports was "unhappy" about Snyder's request during
a recent "MNF" game and "complained" to the NFL. The NFL
has not commented on the situation, while broadcasters have
"honored" the requests (WASHINGTON POST, 10/19).
IS THIS THING ON? Meanwhile, Swanson "apologized" on
behalf of Snyder and the team for the "Ravens fans suck"
comment made by the team's PA announcer during Sunday's game
in Landover (see THE DAILY, 10/18). Swanson: "It was before
the game apparently when he was down on the field, and he
said something to the effect that, 'Let's hear it for all
you Redskins fans' then he said, in an offhand way, 'Ravens
fans suck.' He shouldn't have. He won't again, and we're
sorry that he did" (WASHINGTON POST, 10/19).
