DEVIL RAYS INCREASE SELECT SEATS, PUSH EARLY DISCOUNTS

The Devil Rays announced Wednesday that they will
maintain the "same prices for more than" 60% of the seats at
Tropicana Field while raising others in a range from $1 to
$35, according to Marc Topkin of the ST. PETERSBURG TIMES.
The average price for season tickets will go up 6%, from
$13.24 to $14.03 per game, and the average price on an
individual-game basis will increase 13%, from $15.82 to
$17.86. The lower and suite level seats have been raised,
while prices for upper-deck seats are unchanged. After the
team has seen its season ticket base drop from 21,500 in '97
to 13,500 in '98 to around 10,000 currently, the Devil Rays
are offering something of an "early-bird special" where fans
who buy or renew season tickets before November 17 will pay
the 2000 prices for "any seating category," and those who
pay in full by that date receive a 5% discount. The team
has also expanded the program for season-ticket holders to
exchange unused tickets, allowing trades for any Monday-
Thursday game (ST. PETERSBURG TIMES, 10/19).
