XEROX DECIDES TO CUT HOSPITALITY AROUND PHOENIX GOLF EVENT

The "financially troubled" Xerox is "pulling up stakes
on its elaborate corporate tent" at the Phoenix Open as part
of "its massive cost-cutting effort," according to Peter
Corbett of the ARIZONA REPUBLIC. But Xerox spokesperson
Carl Langsenkamp said that the company will continue its
role as presenting TV sponsor of the January event. Xerox
entertained as many as 500 people a day at the 2000 event in
a 5,000-square-foot tent. Corporate tents at the Phoenix
Open cost up to $75,000, plus catering and decorating costs.
Corbett writes that Xerox is "struggling" against "stiff"
marketplace competition, and was forced to dispel "rumors"
of bankruptcy on Friday (ARIZONA REPUBLIC, 10/18).
