TROUBLED GEAR.COM ANNOUNCES MERGER WITH OVERSTOCK.COM

Less than a month after Seattle-based Gear.com laid off
one third of its staff, the company yesterday announced
plans to merge with Salt Lake-based Overstock.com, a company
that also "sells discounted retail goods online," according
to Monica Soto of the SEATTLE TIMES. Terms of the stock-
for-stock deal were not disclosed. A Gear.com spokesperson
said that the company will remain in Seattle and its 45
employees will "keep their jobs." Overstock.com "purchases
inventory from failed dot-coms and merchandisers and sells
it to consumers at a deep discount" (SEATTLE TIMES, 10/13).
