NAMES IN THE NEWS

          NOT STANDING PAT: 76ers President PAT CROCE will begin
     the tour for his new book, "I FEEL GREAT AND YOU WILL TOO!"
     tomorrow in Philadelphia (PHILADELPHIA DAILY NEWS, 10/12). 
     The ROBB REPORT's Jack Smith profiles Croce and writes that
     he "not only runs the Sixers show, sometimes he is the
     show."  Croce "is a national celebrity, his picture in
     Sports Illustrated and USA Today.  He lives in a mansion on
     the Main Line [in Philadelphia], and -- as everyone in the
     [First Union Center] will tell you -- he hasn't changed a
     bit.  He still joins fans in the bleacher seats and leads
     cheers" (ROBB REPORT, 10/2000 issue).
          MORE NAMES: In Chicago, Guerrero & Houlihan write that
     the BAHA MEN's song, "WHO LET THE DOGS OUT," has become
     "such a big hit at stadiums that fans are deluging music
     stores and radio request lines."  The "widespread stadium
     play has pushed the album of the same name from nowhere" to
     Billboard's Top 10 list (CHICAGO SUN-TIMES, 10/12)....ESPN
     Senior VP/Marketing LEE ANN DALY was among the inductees for
     2000 into the American Advertising Federation's Hall of
     Achievement (BRANDWEEK, 10/9)....USA TODAY's Harry Blauvelt
     writes that the golf played in the new movie, "THE LEGEND OF
     BAGGER VANCE," is "believable" (USA TODAY, 10/12)....Olympic
     Gold-medal winning swimmer LENNY KRAYZELBURG "talked about
     being beseiged with dozens of marriage proposals since he
     was in Sydney."  Krayzelburg: "A Russian jewish woman would
     be ideal."  Also, Olympic Gold-medal sprinter MARION JONES
     is "even making it onto [the cover of] magazines that don't
     exist," as she will appear on "Blush," the "fictional
     fashion mag on NBC" sitcom "JUST SHOOT ME" in the show's
     season opener this week (SI, 10/16 issue)....ESPN anchor
     KENNY MAYNE appeared on this morning's "GMA" and said, "I
     take my job seriously, but not myself. ... I don't let the
     stats get in the way of the story.  There are others who are
     doing the more serious journalism.  I'm trying to have some
     fun with the sports" ("GMA," ABC, 10/12).
