          Magic G GRANT HILL and his wife TAMIA will give Duke
     Univ. $1M to establish an endowment fund for athletic
     scholarship support (Duke Univ.)....Jets Owner ROBERT WOOD
     JOHNSON IV, on donating $12M to the Alliance for Lupus
     Research (see THE DAILY, 9/28), a program committed to the
     prevention, treatment and cure of lupus within the next ten
     years: "This is like breast cancer, but nobody's paying
     attention to it" (NEWSDAY, 9/29)....In N.Y., Mitchell Fink
     reports that PETE SAMPRAS and BRIDGETTE WILSON will get
     married tomorrow in L.A. (N.Y. DAILY NEWS, 9/29)....The
     DAILY RACING FORM's Matt Hegarty reports that the NYRA "was
     served with a federal subpoena" Wednesday "in the wake of an
     investigation into possible money-laundering" at the NYRA's
     three tracks -- Belmont, Aqueduct and Saratoga (DAILY RACING
     FORM, 9/29)....TX Gov. GEORGE W. BUSH was on the campaign
     trail in Green Bay, WI, where he appeared at the Packers
     practice facility and was pictured with QB BRETT FAVRE and
     coach MIKE SHERMAN.  Bush threw passes to a Packers receiver
     ("CBS Evening News," 9/28).  NBC's David Gregory: "Bush ...
     even talks about the budget during a practice session with
     the [Packers]."  One of the Packers asked Bush, "Can we get
     the tax bracket lowered?" ("Nightly News," NBC, 9/28).
