BOIVIN: CANADIENS LIKELY TO BE SOLD TO GROUP

Canadiens President Pierre Boivin said that control of
the team "is more likely to be sold to a consortium rather
than one single company," according to Kathryn Leger of the
FINANCIAL POST. Boivin: "I think there will be a group,
probably not a large group, but a group of complementary
interests." Boivin also said that the private auction for
the assets, which is "scheduled for completion" by the end
of 2000, is "on track." Boivin: "We have identified the
interested buyers and now we are in the phase of meeting
with them" (FINANCIAL POST, 9/29). While reports have
stated that buyers "were more interested in the team than
the expensive and heavily taxed" Molson Centre, Boivin said
that the team and arena "will be sold together." Boivin
also announced a three-year plan to raise season-ticket
sales to 16,000, which he said would be a "club record." The
     team's season-ticket base has dropped to about 13,700 --
12,000 seats and 1,700 in luxury boxes (CP, 9/29).
