NETWORK NEWS TV MONITOR: CBS FINALLY MENTIONS SYDNEY!

          Last night's 6:30pm ET edition of NBC's "Nightly News"
     had five reports from the Sydney Games for 10:40 of total
     Olympic coverage.  At 0:44 into the broadcast, NBC had a
     2:58 report on Romanian gymnast Andreea Raducan and C.J.
     Hunter; at 3:51, a 1:07 commentary on doping; at 19:13, a
     "Greatest Olympic Moments"; at 22:35, a 3:14 report on pole
     vaulter Stacy Dragila; and at 25:57, a 2:52 report on beach
     volleyball player Jenny Johnson Jordan, daughter of Rafer
     Johnson.  Last night's 6:30pm ET edition of ABC's "World
     News Tonight" had two Olympic reports and 2:18 of total
     coverage.  At 11:39, ABC had a 0:30 on the day's results,
     and at 12:09, a 1:48 report on Hunter and Raducan.  Last
     night's 7:00pm ET edition of "CBS Evening News" had three
     reports on the Games and 4:40 of total Olympic coverage.  At
     0:41, CBS had a 1:47 report on Hunter; at 2:37, a 2:36
     report that U.S. officials will takeover the drug-testing
     from the IOC at the Salt Lake Games; and at 27:34, a 0:17
     report reviewing its "top story" of Raducan being stripped
     of her Gold medal (THE DAILY).  
          CBS EXPLAINS NEWS CHOICE: "CBS Evening News"
     spokesperson Kim Aktar was asked by THE DAILY this morning
     about the network's decision not to cover news from Sydney
     until last night.   Aktar: "'CBS Evening News' covers
     breaking news and will continue to do so."  When asked if
     CBS has considered the Olympics "breaking news" for the ten
     previous days, Aktar said, "If you've noticed, we're not the
     network that is carrying the Olympics" (THE DAILY).
