CUBAN CONTINUES ROYAL TREATMENT OF PLAYERS WITH NEW CHAIRS

Mavericks Owner Mark Cuban has "designed new chairs for
his players to sit in" during home games, which will be
"equipped with gadgets similar to those in massage chairs,"
according to Dwain Price of the FT. WORTH STAR-TELEGRAM.
Cuban: "We're having special chairs developed that'll be
patented and trademarked to us. We haven't decided if we're
going to sell them to anybody else in the NBA, but we will
sell them to other teams in college and high school, and
we'll be introducing them shortly." Cuban added that the
chairs will not be on the visitors bench at Reunion Arena
(FT. WORTH STAR-TELEGRAM, 9/26). Price wrote that the
Mavericks will debut new uniforms in the 2001-02 season with
a horse's head logo and new colors of black, blue and
metallic silver, "similar" to the color scheme of the Magic.
The team will wear T-shirts with the new logo and colors
this season (FT. WORTH STAR-TELEGRAM, 9/24). Price added,
"Other than [GM/coach] Don Nelson's weekly show, the
Mavericks have virtually been shut out of the radio talk-
show scene." Mavericks Senior VP/Marketing & Communications
Matt Fitzgerald: "We would love that stuff and we're
aggressively pursuing that stuff for our players and
coaches. As time goes on and the team gets better, we want
to build that relationship between players and the team and
the fans, and peel out the players' personalities. I know
we've got enough coaches to do radio shows on every radio
station in Dallas" (FT. WORTH STAR-TELEGRAM, 9/22)
HICKS SPEAKS: Stars/Rangers Owner Tom Hicks was
interviewed in an extensive Q&A with the DALLAS MORNING
NEWS. Hicks said the Rangers will "have a profit this year.
... We would like to at least break even in this business."
He added the Stars will "lose money this year, but we'll be
a profitable team once we move into" American Airlines
Center for the 2001-02 season (DALLAS MORNING NEWS, 9/23).
