NAMES IN THE NEWS

          VENUS WILLIAMS, on JOHN MCENROE's recent criticism of
     her and her sister Serena: "I don't know John McEnroe.  I've
     never had a conversation with him.  He doesn't know me.  So
     I find it difficult to form an opinion on someone that I
     don't know. ... I don't know why he's saying these things. 
     I just don't know why" (Mult., 9/20)....CARL LEWIS is "in
     the process" of establishing the CARL LEWIS ENTERTAINMENT
     GROUP.  Plans for the company include the production and
     development of TV and theatrical films, "some of which may
     feature Lewis"; A deal is also in the works for Lewis to co-
     host "a hip-hop, fitness TV show"; and Lewis also plans on
     developing a Web site "that will offer news, information,
     features and other content on track and field" (USA TODAY,
     9/20)....The GLAZER FAMILY FOUNDATION donated $125,000 to
     help create the Glazer Family Field at a Tampa area
     recreation center.  The donation "is considered the kickoff"
     in a drive to raise $1M in private contributions for NFL
     youth centers in east Tampa.  NFL CHARITIES is providing a
     $1M grant for the city and county to provide programs for
     disadvantaged young people (TAMPA TRIBUNE, 9/20).
     ...Promoters of the annual football contest featuring
     Prairie View A&M and Grambling State universities at the
     Cotton Bowl said that AL LIPSCOMB's name "has been dropped
     from the title" of the game "because of the former City
     Council member's bribery conviction."  The game had
     previously been called the SOUTHWEST AIRLINES AL LIPSCOMB
     STATE FAIR CLASSIC (DALLAS MORNING NEWS, 9/20).
