NETWORK NEWS OLYMPIC TV MONITOR: ABC TAKES ON LIVE COVERAGE

          Last night's 6:30pm ET edition of ABC's "World News
     Tonight" reported on the Olympic Games at 8:24 into the
     broadcast with a 0:52 report on the day's results and medal
     winners, followed by a 2:04 report on TV viewer reaction to
     watching the tape-delayed Games on NBC instead of live. 
     Last night's 6:30pm ET edition of NBC's "Nightly News" led
     with a 0:25 report on the current medal count.  NBC featured
     three other Olympic reports: at 10:18 into the broadcast, a
     3:08 report on U.S. women's gymnastics advisor Bela Karolyi;
     at 13:26, a 3:08 report on the training regimen of the
     Chinese gymnasts; and at 22:24, a 0:20 report on the Sydney
     venue itself.  Last night's 7:00pm ET edition of the "CBS
     Evening News" did not report on the Olympics (THE DAILY).
