EVERYTHING'S BIGGER IN TEXAS: INCLUDING NFL RADIO DEALS

The Texans have reached a $70M, ten-year radio rights
agreement with CBS Infinity Broadcasting Corp. (CIBC), which
owns four stations in the Houston market, according to the
HOUSTON CHRONICLE, which calls the agreement "one of the
most lucrative radio broadcast deals in the history of
professional sports." Sports Radio KILT-AM and Texas
Country sister station KILT-FM will simulcast games in 2002
when the Texans make their debut. The Texans will also have
three-hour pregame and postgame shows. Team Senior
VP/Marketing & Sales Jamey Rootes "led the Texans'
negotiating team that secured" the $70M deal, which "dwarfs"
the former NFL Oilers' previous deal with KTRH-AM, which was
valued at less than $30M over five years. Beginning Monday,
GM Charley Casserly "will do a one-hour show" each week on
KILT-AM through the end of the NFL season, and next month,
the "Texans Roundup" program will debut on KILT-AM. CIBC
will also develop a radio network to broadcast Texans games
and programming across the region (HOUSTON CHRONICLE, 9/12).
