NAMES IN THE NEWS

          OWNERS SPIN MOVES: WAYNE HUIZENGA is selling "one of
     his two houses" on Nantucket that features six bedrooms and
     five-and-a-half baths.  The home is listed at $4.5M (WALL
     STREET JOURNAL, 8/25)....PHILIP ANSCHUTZ is "close to a deal
     to take control" of United Artists Theatre in a transaction
     "expected to include a prearranged Chapter 11 reorganization
     filing next month" (WALL STREET JOURNAL, 8/25)....In St.
     Paul, Charley Walters notes that Twins Owner CARL POHLAD and
     his family received $661M "in cash, stock and assumed debt"
     this week for PepsiAmericas, which "is enough, basically, to
     build not one but two stadiums" (PIONEER PRESS, 8/25).
          NAMES: Lakers C SHAQUILLE O'NEAL appeared on last
     night's "Late Show" with David Letterman wearing a Dunk.net
     T-shirt.  O'Neal, on who started the riots in L.A. following
     the Lakers' NBA Championship win: "It wasn't me.  I didn't
     tell them to do anything.  I'm sure.  You know what, it was
     [the "Late Show's" Biff Henderson].  Just think about it. 
     He was there interviewing me and then when I turned around,
     he wasn't there.  It was Biff."  O'Neal said he watches WNBA
     games and was hoping the Comets would win the championship,
     saying, "They post-up very hard" ("Late Show," CBS, 8/24).
     O'Neal also appeared on CBS' "The Early Show" this morning
     and discussed Dunk.net.  O'Neal, on the product
     customization offered on the site: "At Dunk.net, we give you
     the ability to be yourself, rather than be like Mike or be
     like Shaq" ("The Early Show," CBS, 8/25)....Univ. of Memphis
     men's basketball coach JOHN CALIPARI is "lending his name to
     a new restaurant" opening in Memphis in October that will be
     called Cal's Championship Steaks.  Calipari "doesn't intend
     to appear out front in advertising for the restaurant"
     (Memphis COMMERCIAL APPEAL, 8/25)....Comets C MONICA LAMB
     has been named winner of the second annual AmEx Small
     Business Services WNBA Entrepreneurial Achievement Award. 
     Lamb was honored for founding the Monica Lamb Wellness
     Foundation, a non-profit that is "dedicated to promoting
     health, wellness and fitness from a holistic standpoint for
     women and children" (HOUSTON CHRONICLE, 8/25)....JAY LENO,
     on "Survivor" castaway SUE HAWK calling fellow "Survivor"
     contestant KELLY WIGLESWORTH a "rat": "Even BOBBY KNIGHT was
     sitting at home, going, 'Chill out babe, winning isn't
     everything.  Take it easy'" ("Tonight Show," 8/24)....BILLIE
     JEAN KING appeared on CBS' "The Early Show" and said that
     the WORLD TEAM TENNIS championship match, featuring the
     Delaware Smash against the Sacramento Capitals, will be held
     at 2:30 Saturday, following Arthur Ashe Kids Day at the U.S.
     Open.  King said admission to the match is free and added of
     WTT, "We have co-ed, it's equal, we have gender equity on
     the court, it's crowd participation" (CBS, 8/25).

On this week’s pod, SBJ’s Austin Karp has two Big Get interviews. The first is with TNT’s Stan Van Gundy as he breaks down the NBA Playoffs from the booth. Later in the show, we hear from ESPN’s VP of Programming and Acquisitions Tim Reed as the NFL Draft gets set to kick off on Thursday night in Motown.
