TV MONITOR: Last night's 10:00pm ET 60-minute edition
of FSN's "The Keith Olbermann Evening News" led with a 4:46
report on the PGA Championship, followed by Cubs-D'Backs.
Olbermann had 11:25 of total PGA Championship coverage. He
did not report on the Arena Bowl. Last night's 11:00pm ET
30-minute edition of CNN/SI's "Sports Tonight" led with a
5:56 report on the PGA Championship, followed by Braves-
Giants. "Sports Tonight" had 5:56 of total PGA Championship
coverage and also did not report on the Arena Bowl. A 30-
minute PGA Championship highlight show followed "Sports
Tonight." Last night's 11:00pm ET 60-minute edition of
ESPN's "SportsCenter" led with a 9:28 report on the PGA
Championship, followed by Braves-Giants. "SportsCenter" had
18:15 of total PGA Championship coverage and reported on the
Arena Bowl at 56:49 (THE DAILY).
CBA INKS RLR: The CBA signed N.Y.-based RLR Associates
to develop broadcast coverage opportunities in the U.S. and
around the world. The agreement calls for RLR to represent
the league in all negotiations with potential broadcast
partners for games this fall between CBA teams and NCAA
teams in an exhibition series, CBA regular season games, CBA
All-Star Game and the CBA's playoffs and championship (CBA).
PLAY STATION: In Ft. Worth, Charean Williams wrote that
Cowboys offensive adviser Ernie Zampese is among four
coaches who have filed suit against sportsplaybooks.com and
fogdog.com to prevent them from selling playbooks on the
Internet. Williams noted that sportsplaybooks.com "was shut
down in May amid complaints from coaches and football
programs" (FT. WORTH STAR-TELEGRAM, 8/19). In Houston, Bill
Murphy wrote that the lawsuit asks that sportsplaybooks.com
"remain shut down, reveal how it obtained the playbooks and
hand over its profits" (HOUSTON CHRONICLE, 8/19).
NOTES: The DAILY SOUTHTOWN's Tom Bonen wrote that Rob
Stone, host of ESPN2's "MLS - Extra Time" program, is
"believable, well informed and personable," while the
"unpredictability" of analyst Alexi Lalas "makes the show
always edgy" (DAILY SOUTHTOWN, 8/20)....In N.Y., Mitchell
Fink writes that Kathie Lee Gifford, on a cruise with
husband Frank Gifford, was asked by a fellow passenger how
Frank felt about Dennis Miller "getting his job" on "MNF."
She said, "It's terrible. He's evil" (DAILY NEWS, 8/21).
