EXECS AND OWNERS IN THE NEWS: SPANOS AMONG TOP GOP DONORS

Chargers Owner ALEX SPANOS' A.G. Spanos Companies is
listed as the seventh largest contributor this year to the
Republican National Committee, according to the N.Y. TIMES.
The company has contributed $477,000 (N.Y. TIMES, 7/30).
MORE NAMES: In St. Pete, Robert Trigaux wrote that this
past spring, the "last of the gambling companies" for which
Devil Rays Managing General Partner VINCE NAIMOLI served as
director was "swallowed up by another casino operator."
While Naimoli is "no longer a director" of any publicly
traded gambling company, "such a resolution may bring a sigh
of relief" for MLB (ST. PETE TIMES, 7/30)....Lifetime's
Persefone Contos profiled WNBA President VAL ACKERMAN during
the Sol-Lynx WNBA game on Friday. Ackerman noted the
"evolution and attitudes by men" toward the WNBA: "Some of
our most rabid fans have become fathers who have daughters
and who see in sports a new opportunity for them." Ackerman
said that "it's hard not to feel like a groundbreaker" for
women in sports. Ackerman: "I would be very happy knowing
that I was part of the creation of something that helped
redefine the opportunities that are available for women ...
in sports" ("WNBA On Lifetime," 7/28).
