EXECUTIVE TRANSACTIONS

          The NHL Rangers named AL COATES as VP & GM of Hartford
     Sports where he will oversee the AHL Wolf Pack and the
     business operations of the AFL Sea Wolves.  Coates spent the
     last 20 years as a member of the Flames management team
     (Rangers)....Longtime Redskins player contract negotiator
     JOE MENDES has resigned (Redskins).  CBS SportsLine's Len
     Pasquarelli reported a potential successor to Mendes is
     NFLPA Assistant Dir of Research MARK LEVIN.  Sources told
     SportsLine that Levin could meet with Redskins Owner Daniel
     Snyder "as early as" Tuesday (CBS SportsLine, 7/26)....JANE
     FORBES CLARK was elected Chair and JOE MORGAN Vice Chair of
     the National Baseball HOF BOD.  Clark replaces longtime
     Chair EDWARD STACK, who will remain a Board member.  Royals
     Chair DAVID GLASS and former NL President BILL WHITE were
     also added (National Baseball Hall of Fame).
