FRANCHISE NOTES

In Chicago, Carol Slezak writes that the Blackhawks
will hold an open meeting tonight where fans can ask the
team questions. Slezak: "One small problem. Word is that
no one from the Wirtz [ownership] family is planning to
attend. General manager Bob Pulford won't be there either.
Sort of like having a criminal trial without a defendant,
eh?" (CHICAGO SUN-TIMES, 7/26)....In Dallas, Tim Cowlishaw
cites Stars Exec VP/Marketing Jeff Cogen as saying that the
team is "working out the kinks" for a new ticket-revenue
plan for the 2000-01 season. The plan would have season-
ticket holders selling individual game tickets they "don't
wish to use" back to the club at "something around" 85-90%
of face value. The Stars would then resell those seats at
the public sale ticket price, which "is always higher" than
the season-ticket price. Cogen: "There exists a secondary
market for Stars tickets. Take that as a fact. ... In the
vision I have, we are picking up the difference between
season ticket and gate price" (DALLAS MORNING NEWS, 7/26).
...AFL Commissioner David Baker said that the Sea Wolves'
regular season average attendance in Hartford -- which is
     6,129 through seven home dates, down 1,300 from '99 -- "is a
disappointment and league officials will discuss whether the
team should relocate." Baker: "I think Hartford is one of
the cities we are going to have to look at and re-examine as
we approach the ArenaBowl as to whether or not that's the
right place for it." The franchise is owned by MSG and "was
moved to" Hartford last year (HARTFORD COURANT, 7/26).
