WET AND WILD: SAFECO ROOF STALLS DURING RANGERS-M'S GAME

Safeco Field's $13M retractable roof "stalled open
right in the middle of a summer afternoon downpour" during
     Saturday's Rangers-Mariners game, according to Robin &
Romero of the SEATTLE TIMES, who noted that rain delay was
"the first in the history" of the Mariners. Mariners
spokesperson Tim Hevly: "There was a computer communications
failure between the touch screen used to activate the roof
and the actual roof moving mechanism -- the program that
controls the roof function." Hevly said that the system
"had to be rebooted," which took 20 minutes. The team has a
four-year warranty on the roof, which was built by Seattle-
based Ederer Inc. (SEATTLE TIMES, 7/23).
