WMAQ NO LONGER DA HOME OF DA BEARS: TEAM MOVES TO WBBM

Infinity Broadcast Corp. is moving its all-sports
format from WSCR to WMAQ-AM, the Bears' flagship, effective
August 1, according to Jim Kirk of the CHICAGO TRIBUNE. As
a result, the Bears are changing stations as well, moving
from WMAQ to all-news sister station WBBM-AM. Kirk writes
the move is the result of a deal struck between Bears
management and WMAQ execs last fall "as part of a new five-
year contract between the team and the station." Under the
new agreement, the Bears "had the option to move if the all-
sports format moved to WMAQ." Bears management "apparently
didn't want to be on the same station where callers and
personalities alike could constantly bash the team." But
Kirk notes the Blackhawks "apparently don't mind" the
situation and will stay on WMAQ (CHICAGO TRIBUNE, 7/11).
