TOTAL SPORTS SAYS IT IS STILL SEEKING BUYER FOR PRINT ARM

Total Sports is "burning cash," according to Keith
Kelly of the N.Y. POST, who reported that the company lost
$11.2M in '98 and lost $6.9M in the first half of '99 on
revenues of only $4.7M. One writer claimed that the company
"slowed down its payments to him for contracted work," and
said he is owed about $2,000 and has "asked the National
Writers Union to see if the company is slowing down payment
to other writers." Total Sports President & CEO Gary
Stevenson: "As far as I know, our payables record is pretty
good. I don't believe there is a problem there." Stevenson
"did confirm that the company is trying to unload" its Total
Sports Publishing division. Kelly cited sources as saying
that Paul Allen's Vulcan Ventures "has broken off talks in
recent weeks" to purchase the print unit. Stevenson: "Going
forward ... we felt the print publishing and the digital
publishing should be separate" (N.Y. POST, 7/9).
