NASCAR'S GOT THATLOOK.COM: LAST-MINUTE DEAL INKED FOR EVENTS
Published July 10, 2000
Yesterday's Winston Cup race at NH Int'l Speedway was
title sponsored by thatlook.com, a Web site that assists
individuals in "obtain[ing] elective cosmetic surgery,"
according to a report in the Laconia (NH) CITIZEN. The
deal, which was signed late last week, also included title
sponsorship of the other three NASCAR races held at NHIS
this weekend -- the Craftsman Truck Series, Busch North
Series and Featherlite Modified Series. NHIS President Gary
Bahre said that thatlook.com "may" have paid "more than" $1M
to sponsor all of the weekend's events. But for "most
NASCAR fans, the idea of elective cosmetic surgery is an
exotic luxury that is out of reach" (Laconia CITIZEN, 7/6).
In Charlotte, Utter & Poole noted that while the deal named
the Winston Cup race the thatlook.com 300, the Charlotte
Observer "elected to stay" with the name New England 300 "to
reduce confusion" (CHARLOTTE OBSERVER, 7/9).
PATRIOTS: U.S. Assistant Secretary of Defense Charles
Cragin was interviewed during TNN's coverage of the race
yesterday and said of driver Jeff Burton carrying a special
insignia on his car commemorating the 50th anniversary of
the Korean War: "NASCAR folks generally ... are very
patriotic. ... A lot of people have referred to the Korean
War as the 'Forgotten War.' This gives us an opportunity to
make sure it's not forgotten any more" (TNN, 7/9)
