NBA TICKET HIKES: AFTER TITLE, LAKERS RAISE SOME PRICES
Published July 10, 2000
After raising ticket prices before their inaugural year
in Staples Center, the Lakers announced another ticket
increase on Friday, according to Jerry Crowe of the L.A.
TIMES. Other than floor seats, the most expensive tickets
will increase by $10 per seat, to costs of $160, $140, $100,
$70 and $55 per game. The lowest-priced seats, all in the
upper bowl, will remain at $31, $21 and $10 (L.A. TIMES,
7/8). The SPORTSBUSINESS JOURNAL's Liz Mullen writes that
courtside seats for Lakers games will increase by $200 per
game to $1,350 (SPORTSBUSINESS JOURNAL, 7/10 issue).
76ERS UP 10%: In Philadelphia, Phil Jasner wrote that
the 76ers increased ticket prices 9-10% "for some of the
seats" in the First Union Center's lower bowl. 76ers Senior
VP Dave Coskey: "Less than 50 percent of the seats in the
lower bowl are affected. And even with the increase, we
still rank in the middle-to-the-bottom half in the league in
pricing. We tried to be sensitive to our season
ticketholders." 76ers President Pat Croce: "We're still in
the red. At least we didn't do what New Jersey did, which
was raise some prices by 25 percent. We're still down in
the middle of the pack. But if I didn't raise prices, I'd
lose my job" (PHILADELPHIA DAILY NEWS, 7/8).
