MIKE TOLLIN and BRIAN ROBBINS are following up their next
film, "HARDBALL," starring KEANU REEVES, with the baseball
film "SUMMER CATCH," starring actor FREDDIE PRINZE JR.
After "Catch," Tollin says that he will direct either "a
rags-to-riches story about a team owner," or a project about
"a retarded man in a small Southern town who becomes a
mascot for a sports team" (ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY, 6/30).
...Saints RB RICKY WILLIAMS concludes a tour of military
bases in Europe this week as part of his participation in
Extreme Summer 2000, a program which focuses on children age
13-28 and "tries to steer them to positive activities." The
tour was organized by Pro Sports MVP (USA TODAY, 6/27).
...Red Sox SS NOMAR GARCIAPARRA hosted his first annual
"NOMAR BOWL" in Boston last night. The bowling tournament
raised more than $100,000 for inner-city youths and the MA
Sports Partnership (BOSTON HERALD, 6/27)....A fundraiser
hosted by Nets F JAYSON WILLIAMS Sunday raised $200,000 for
pediatric AIDS and Parkinson's disease (Mult., 6/27).
