NAMES IN THE NEWS

          RDV Sports VP JULIUS ERVING was a guest on CNN's "Larry
     King Live" Friday night and NBC's "Today" and ABC's "GMA"
     this morning to discuss the status of the search for his
     missing son, Cory (THE DAILY)....In Tampa, Dave Simanoff
     reported that Bucs Owner MALCOLM GLAZER's Zapata Corp., an
     "internet-and-fish-byproduct company," wants to invest in
     "low-grade bonds," a practice that is "risky," but can be
     "lucrative."  Zapata is advertising that it has $100M to
     spend on "distressed bonds" (TAMPA TRIBUNE, 6/25).
     ...PRESIDENT CLINTON toured the ARCO U.S. Olympic Training
     Center Friday in San Diego to "pay tribute to American
     athletes and promote physical fitness" (SAN DIEGO UNION-
     TRIBUNE, 6/24)....In N.Y., Neal Travis reports that MAGIC
     JOHNSON has "inked a two-year deal with" agent DARREN PRINCE
     of Prince Marketing Group (N.Y. POST, 6/26)....PBS presents
     the baseball documentary, "GREENER GRASS: CUBA, BASEBALL AND
     THE UNITED STATES," tonight at 10:00pm in many markets, and
     in N.Y., Ron Wertheimer writes, "Wearing its heart on its
     sleeve like a team insignia, the film find nobility in the
     hardscrabble life of today's Cubans" (N.Y. TIMES, 6/26).
     ...In AZ, Joe Salkowski reported that Univ. of AZ men's
     basketball coach LUTE OLSON, with his annual salary of
     $562,230, is the "highest-paid public employee" in AZ
     (ARIZONA DAILY STAR, 6/25).....The Cotter Group's TOM COTTER
     is "taking off a big chunk of the summer to finish a book he
     started 12 years ago" about the history of JOHN HOLMAN and
     RALPH MOODY's "premier racing team."  The book is set for
     release in fall 2002 (CHARLOTTE OBSERVER, 6/26)....CBS' Russ
     Mitchell reported that "in an effort to raise awareness
     about the need for organ donations, more than 2,000 athletes
     who have had transplants are in Orlando for the bi-annual
     'Transplant Games'."  Among the athletes were Spurs F SEAN
     ELLIOTT and OSCAR ROBERTSON ("The Early Show," CBS, 6/25).
