          Former Univ. of NM G/F LAMONT LONG and his Dallas-based
     agent ROGER MONTGOMERY "have parted ways" (ALBUQUERQUE
     JOURNAL, 6/19)....NFL Giants TE PETE MITCHELL has been named
     Honorary National Chair of the second annual "TOMMY'S
     AMERICAN RUNNING SERIES," which features road races in 13
     cities across the U.S. on or around July 4th to benefit the
     National Multiple Sclerosis Society (N.Y. Road Runners
     Club)....Starzz G KATE STARBIRD and BARTON WELLS are fellow
     Stanford Univ. graduates, co-Founders, -CEOs, -CFOs and -
     Presidents of 3HC.com, a start-up company that creates
     special effects for ads and movies.  Starbird is one of four
     candidates for the WNBA Entrepreneurial Award, which
     recognizes players for their achievements off the court
     (SEA. TIMES, 6/19)....USA TODAY's Peter Brewington reports
     that new USSF Secretary General DAN FLYNN's candidacy to
     replace former CEO HANK STEINBRECHER "was boosted by a 100-
     page planning document he submitted during the interview
     process" (USA TODAY, 6/20)....SI's RICK REILLY, comparing
     Lakers C SHAQUILLE O'NEAL to other pro athletes today: "He
     doesn't drink.  He doesn't smoke.  Father's Day is not the
     most complicated day of his year. ... He's comfortable being
     himself.  He's cool about it. He's not going to show up with
     the blood-alcohol level of BORIS YELTSIN or in a Ramada with
     a bowl of cocaine and three 'free-lance models.'"  Reilly,
     on TIGER WOODS: "The next dynasty is here -- it's Tiger. ...
     He's the best I've ever seen and probably the most
     [dominating] athlete of our time.  He's 24-years old.  He
     sickens me" (CBS, 6/19)....JOHN MCENROE, on broadcasting
     with MARV ALBERT during Wimbledon: "I would love to do it
     with Marv, I must say.  I'm not sure if we should do the
     women's matches right off the bat."  McEnroe added, "I think
     VENUS and SERENA [WILLIAMS], hopefully, can be the TIGER
     WOODS of tennis. ... and they got to show a little bit of
     humility and that might help" ("Late Show," CBS,
     6/19).....STEVE YOUNG, on a possible future as an NFL TV
     analyst: "I don't know if I'm a commentator ... talking
     about football.  I'd rather play, of course, but once you
     don't play, talking about football seems ... I don't think
     that's the first thing out of the gate for me. ... I've got
     to take the BAR [exam], not that the world needs another
