FACILITY NOTES

The Coyotes announced that their practice facility in
Scottsdale, AZ, has changed its name from Cellular One Ice
Den to the Alltel Ice Den. Alltel took ownership of all
former Cellular One properties in AZ, NM and TX in April
(Coyotes)....The center-court section of the parquet floor
from Boston Garden sold yesterday for $331,100 in an
Internet auction by Sotheby's, but the buyer "wasn't
immediately identified" (USA TODAY, 6/16)....An editorial in
the SAN ANTONIO EXPRESS-NEWS, under the header, "Final Push
Needed For Arena Contract," stated: "The taxpayers, the
Spurs and the county have come too far in this major effort
to assure the team's future in this city for the deal to
fall apart" (SAN ANTONIO EXPRESS-NEWS, 6/14)....In CA, Todd
Harmonson reported a group led by NHL Kings co-Owner Ed
Roski "no longer will consider only the [L.A.] Coliseum as a
home for the NFL franchise it is attempting to bring" to
L.A. New Coliseum Venture Exec VP John Semcken said that it
"is premature to say what other sites" the group will
consider, but "none is in" Orange County (ORANGE COUNTY
REGISTER, 6/15)....In Boston, Joan Vennochi, on the Red Sox'
plan for a new Fenway Park: "There are plenty of reasons for
the current Sox proposal to fail on the merits. Sox [CEO]
John Harrington does not grasp a basic economic concept: The
ballclub is asking for too much taxpayer money. Unless the
Sox put more private money into the deal, it deserves to
fail" (BOSTON GLOBE, 6/16)....In Portland, Gordon Gregory
wrote that the Crook County Court "tapped the brakes on a
plan" by developers who "want to build" a $350M "NASCAR-
style" racetrack and associated businesses on 1,100 acres
that they want the county "to donate." The court sent a
letter to developers saying that the proposal "had too many
risks and too many public costs" (Portland OREGONIAN, 6/15).
