MARKETPLACE ROUND-UP

          RACING: In NC, Mike Mulhern reported that GM has
     "confirmed" that it is "cutting back on support to lesser
     Winston Cup teams in order to focus more on the top teams." 
     Meanwhile, Mulhern also reported that McDonald's execs
     "denied reports they will drop all NASCAR sponsorships" at
     the end of this season.  The company is in its final year
     with Bill Elliott's Winston Cup team and is in the first
     year of a multi-year pact with new NASCAR team owner Cal
     Wells (W-S JOURNAL, 6/10)....Winston Cup driver Steve Park
     and sponsor Pennzoil "both have signed multiyear" contract
     extensions with Dale Earnhardt Inc. (W-S JOURNAL, 6/10).  
          SI FOR KIDS GEAR: SI For Kids is partnering with
     Classic Sport Companies to market a line of SI For Kids
     sporting goods.  The line, which includes basketballs,
     soccer balls and footballs, will launch at Toys 'R' Us this
     month and will also be available at other retail outlets.
