PGA TOUR READY TO APPEAL MARTIN CASE TO THE SUPREME COURT

Casey Martin's attorney Roy Reardon said that the PGA
Tour "has decided to take its case against" Martin to the
U.S. Supreme Court, according to Leonard Shapiro of the
WASHINGTON POST. The Tour's BOD and Policy Board met last
week in FL, and Reardon said that it "voted to appeal a 9th
Circuit Court decision" which allows Martin to use a golf
cart on the Tour. The Tour has lost the case against Martin
in OR and CA courts, and Martin said of the Tour's decision
to appeal, "I'm disappointed. People had been telling me
they were not (going to appeal), but in my heart I knew they
would." Reardon said the Supreme Court will likely hear
arguments from both sides this fall before making a final
decision on whether to hear the appeal. Reardon said that
"if the court agrees to hear the appeal, a final decision
likely would not come until 2001" (WASHINGTON POST, 5/31).
