SPORTS ON THE WEB: NHL.COM BACK UP AFTER HACKER ATTACK

The NHL's official Web site, NHL.com, was "crippled
Monday and Tuesday by 'denial of service' attacks in which a
computer hacker or hackers make a site inaccessible by
overloading its servers with millions of Web page requests,"
according to USA TODAY's Chris Jenkins. NHL Publicist Joy
Kalfus: "This is not due to any technology problems. The
site works beautifully, if you could get into it." The NHL
"alerted the FBI to the attack" (USA TODAY, 5/24). NHL
VP/Communications Bernadette Mansur told THE DAILY this
morning that the site is "intermittently accessible."
Mansur: "We're on it and we're hopeful that we can resolve
this situation as soon as possible." She added that the
security of the site "has not been compromised at all, it
has just been a denial of service" (THE DAILY).
IT'S JUST A FANTASY: WNBA.com has launched WNBA Fantasy
Hoops 2000, which it claims to be the first ever fantasy
game for a women's pro sports league (WNBA). The
SPORTSBUSINESS JOURNAL's Noah Liberman reports that the game
is being produced by Prime Sports Interactive and will be
promoted on its site, primesports.net. Liberman: "More
interestingly, the game also will be advertised on other
     independent fantasy sites, in cross-promotional
     arrangements" (SPORTSBUSINESS JOURNAL, 5/22 issue).
ONLINE NOTES: Excite@Home is offering online users
access to "the life of an Indy racer," as the site follows
IRL driver and corporate partner Eddie Cheever leading up to
this weekend's Indianapolis 500. Coverage can be accessed
