MARKETPLACE ROUND-UP

BRAND JORDAN THE OFFICIAL SHOE OF CHICAGO? In Chicago,
Gary Washburn reports that the city "plans to seek corporate
sponsorships designed to pour millions of dollars into its
coffers. How about Compaq, the 'official computer of the
city of Chicago'? Or perhaps Mountain Dew, 'the Windy
City's official thirst quencher'?" Washburn wonders of the
"political implications" of the effort: "What would [Mayor
Richard] Daley, a lifelong Chicago White Sox fan, do if the
Chicago Cubs offered a mittful of dollars to become the
city's official baseball team?" (CHICAGO TRIBUNE, 5/23).
OTHER NOTES: The Univ. of KY Basketball Museum is
"working on a deal" that would "add the name of a business
to its title in exchange for help eliminating construction
debt." Papa John's "plans to pass on the idea," but Lexmark
"has been contacted as a potential sponsor," and museum
execs will meet with other KY companies over the next few
weeks (LEXINGTON HERALD-LEADER, 5/23)....In Pittsburgh, Rob
Biertempfel profiles Int'l Sports Marketing (ISM) CEO
Michael Fetchko and writes that the company has "grown from
a three-man operation to a group of 50-plus employees." ISM
is a "flagship for" int'l marketing agency Communicator
     Sports & Entertainment (Pittsburgh TRIBUNE-REVIEW, 5/22).
...Chicago-based Scarborough Sports Marketing has signed
CART as a new client (Scarborough Sports Marketing).
