"The National Sports Report" led with Cardinals-Phillies,
followed by Giants-Braves. The first non-MLB report, at
7:36 into the broadcast, was a follow-up report on the
suspension and fine of IN Univ. men's basketball coach Bobby
Knight. The 11:00pm ET edition of ESPN's "SportsCenter" led
with Cardinals-Phillies, followed by Flyers-Devils and
D'Backs-Expos. Last night's 11:00pm ET edition of CNN/SI's
"Sports Tonight" led with Cardinals-Phillies, followed by
Giants-Braves. The first non-MLB report, at 4:11, was first
round coverage of golf's Deutsche Bank-SAP Open (THE DAILY).
NOTES: In Boston, Howard Manly: "Give NBC some credit
for telling viewers right up front that its coverage of the
summer Olympics -- all 437 1/2 hours -- will be via tape
delay" (BOSTON GLOBE, 5/19)....The Tigers have entered into
an Internet-based partnership with IL-based Ignite Sports
Media. As part of the deal, Ignite has relaunched the
Tigers Web site, located at www.detroittigers.com. The
Tigers site marks Ignite's third MLB team (Ignite)....In OK
City, Mel Bracht reported that Learfield Communications
"will retain radio rights" to OK State Univ. football and
basketball games, and add marketing and TV rights under a
new four-year contract. Bracht notes the deal "is similar"
to a four-year, $7.5M contract the Univ. of OK negotiated
with a partnership group of Learfield, Renda Broadcasting
and Griffin Television (OKLAHOMAN, 5/18)....The NATIONAL
POST's Chris Cobb profiles new CTV Sports President Rick
Brace and writes that Brace would like "to beef up" sporting
content on Outdoor Life Network, which "is profitable in the
highly competitive world of multi-specialty channels, but
Brace says it has great potential" (NATIONAL POST, 5/19).
