NAMES IN THE NEWS

          GIANNA ANGELOPOULOS-DASKALAKI, the "woman credited with
     bringing" the 2004 Olympics to Athens, became the "first
     woman to head" an Olympic organizing team and is now
     responsible for "trying to pull together the effort to
     organize the Games" after criticism over delays and a
     "stagnant bureaucracy" (USA TODAY, 5/10)....WRTV-ABC in
     Indianapolis reported that IN Univ. trustees are
     "recommending" that the investigation of alleged player
     abuse by basketball coach BOBBY KNIGHT "be expanded to
     include new claims of misconduct that could lead to his
     dismissal" (AP, 5/10)....In DC, Ken Wright profiles MLS
     United's 16-year-old "rookie phenom" BOBBY CONVEY, who has
     "reached soccer celebrity status ... seemingly overnight." 
     But the team "wants to slow down Conveymania." United
     President KEVIN PAYNE, who has Convey living at his home:
     "We're going to eliminate the big video pieces and tours of
     my house and stuff" (WASHINGTON TIMES, 5/10)....MVP.com's
     JOHN ELWAY and WAYNE GRETZKY appeared on "Oprah" yesterday
     to talk about their Web site and conduct a celebrity fashion
     show with Cubs 2B ERIC YOUNG, Blackhawks RW TONY AMONTE and
     Fire G ZACK THORNTON modeling apparel sold on MVP.com. After
     moderating the show, Elway was asked about team ownership:
     "If one fell right in front of me, sure" ("Oprah," 5/9).
