HOLT UP A MINUTE: SPURS CHAIR BLAMED FOR UNRESOLVED ISSUES

Bexar County Commissioners Lyle Larson and Paul
Elizondo "complained" yesterday that "key" money issues in
contract negotiations for a new Spurs arena, such as naming
rights and definitions for how the team's net operating
income will be calculated, "remain unresolved because of"
Spurs Chair Peter Holt's "failure to become involved in the
talks," according to Tom Bower of the SAN ANTONIO EXPRESS-
NEWS. Holt "declined an invitation" to yesterday's six-hour
meeting held at the offices of Spurs attorney Tullos Wells.
The meeting involved the county commissioners, the Coliseum
Advisory Board and San Antonio Livestock Exposition Chair
Mary Nan West, whose organization "will join the Spurs as an
anchor tenant in the arena." Spurs CFO & Arena Project
Manager Rick Pych negotiated for the Spurs, as he has since
November. Holt "also declined personal invitations" to meet
Tuesday afternoon with county commissioners. Spurs VP Leo
Gomez, on Holt's involvement: "Peter and the other investors
have given Rick Pych the full authority to negotiate the
deal." Bower notes that the commissioners complained that
Pych "has been unable to speak for the team owners on the
"critical money issues" (SAN ANTONIO EXPRESS-NEWS, 4/27).
