NAMES IN THE NEWS

          JOE DUMARS has formed Du-Plast LLC, a company that will
     make "blow-molded plastic parts" for Toyota, Nissan, and
     "other car companies and major auto suppliers" (DETROIT FREE
     PRESS, 4/20)....In DC, Eric Fisher examines charitable
     foundations run by pro athletes and notes that the SAMMY
     SOSA FOUNDATION faces "intense scrutiny" over its financial
     management.  Darrell Green Youth Life Foundation Exec Dir
     ERIC WHITE: "This is a business, a nonprofit, but still a
     very serious business.  We have the very same challenges in
     hiring qualified people and getting all of our operations
     organized that for-profit companies do.  Often, we need the
     most skilled people because of the scrutiny and the
     spotlight that is on us."  Sosa's agent ADAM KATZ, on the
     status of Sosa's foundation: "We are taking time to regroup
     and evaluate the situation" (WASHINGTON TIMES, 4/20). 
     Meanwhile, Ravens DE MICHAEL MCCRARY has formed "Mac's
     Miracle Fund," a non-profit group that will benefit athletes
     competing in the Special Olympics Maryland.  McCrary's
     donation to the fund is the largest single donation given by
     a professional athlete to an individual Special Olympics
     program throughout the world in the organization's 32-year
     history (Mac's Miracle Fund)....CNBC's Sue Herera reported
     Trail Blazers/Seahawks Owner PAUL ALLEN "has been playing
     the guitar in the band 'GROWN MEN' since 1996.  The band is
     now out with its first CD" called Scratch & Claw.  Allen's
     "portion of the profits from the CD are being donated to
     music related charities" ("Business Center," CNBC, 4/19).
