REDSKINS TO COPE WITH LOSS? EXEC LEAVES AFTER TEN MONTHS

DAVID COPE, who was DANIEL SNYDER's first front-office
hire after he purchased the Redskins last year (see THE
DAILY, 6/15/99) has resigned, according to Liz Clarke of the
WASHINGTON POST. In June, Cope was named Exec VP
responsible for stadium operations, corporate sales,
broadcasting, PR, premium sales and marketing. But Cope's
"area of responsibility was streamlined after Steve Baldacci
was brought onboard last fall as team president." In recent
months, Baldacci has "restructured many of the business-
related areas that had been under Cope, creating departments
of national brand marketing, local brand marketing,
broadcasting and publishing." Cope was not available for
comment, but Baldacci said, "We wish him very well. David
Cope is a nice guy." Cope is "the latest high-ranking
Redskins official to resign less than a year after being
brought onboard." JOHN MAROON, VP/PR & Community Relations,
also resigned last week (WASHINGTON POST, 4/17).
