          Lakers C SHAQUILLE O'NEAL appeared on the "Tonight
     Show" wearing sweatpants and a T-shirt with a DUNK.NET logo. 
     O'Neal called himself "a chillin' kind of guy."  O'Neal, on
     coach PHIL JACKSON: "He gave me a book by Nietzsche.  The
     name of the book was 'Superman.'  I didn't want to read
     about myself so I haven't read it yet" ("Tonight Show," NBC,
     4/13)....Actor ROBERT WUHL on his HBO show "ARLI$$": "A lot
     of our stories come from the agents, they come from the
     athletes, they tell me stuff that goes on and I try to
     incorporate it into a narrative and make it entertaining at
     the same time" ("Biz Buzz," CNNfn, 4/13)....Red Sox P PEDRO
     MARTINEZ is the cover story of the current GEAR magazine,
     and NEW YORK magazine notes that Martinez is "the first male
     ever" to grace the publication's cover (NEW YORK, 4/3
     issue)....Former AL President GENE BUDIG is joining the
     Princeton Univ. faculty in September.  He will teach a
     course "dealing with the business of sport and the public

     writes that FL state officials looking into allegations that

     the East L.A. Cancer Center, which was named in honor of De
     La Hoya's mother CECILIA GONZALEZ DE LA HOYA, who passed
     away from cancer ten years ago (L.A. TIMES, 4/13).
