In Pittsburgh, Molinari & Kovacevic note that the
Capitals "have taken a bizarre step to discourage Penguins
fans from packing the MCI Center" for Pens-Caps playoff
games by posting the following on its team Web site:
"Attention PA residents, we are currently experience
difficulty processing your orders. Please seek tickets
elsewhere." Asked about the note, Capitals
VP/Communications Andy McGowan said, "Lighten up. It's just
for fun" (PITTSBURGH POST-GAZETTE, 4/14)....In Minneapolis,
Sid Hartman reports that NFL Commissioner Paul Tagliabue
"has turned down the request" by former Viking President &
Owner Roger Headrick "for a large severance package as part
of the sale of the team" to Red McCombs. Instead, Tagliabue
has "awarded" Headrick a "minimum amount of vacation pay."
The amount is "confidential" (Minneapolis STAR TRIBUNE,
4/14)....In Calgary, Eric Francis, on the Flames: "For an
ownership group that stresses the business side of hockey,
it's amazing the club has no one on staff dedicated to
simply promoting the club through a slick ad campaign. But
because the team is either scared to offend or is simply
unwilling to spend money on such a campaign, it has no
identity, other than being known as hard-working, perennial
losers" (CALGARY SUN, 4/13).
