GRIZZLIES NEW OWNER CHANGES TERMS ON LEASE DEAL

Incoming Grizzlies Owner Michael Heisley has shortened the team's lease at GM Place from 15 years to five, "narrowing his risk in the event that his $160 million US club doesn't reverse its financial fortunes," according to Howard Tsumura of the Vancouver PROVINCE. The NBA has "indicated" that five years is a "reasonable length of time for Vancouver to prove its viability as an NBA city" (Vancouver PROVINCE, 4/14). Orca Bay President Stan McCammon confirmed the team's reworked lease but said "there's nothing to read into it" (VAN. SUN, 4/14). READY, SET, HUTT? Tsumura adds that sources say Blazers Senior VP/Marketing Operations Harry Hutt "turned down an offer" to become Grizzlies President (Van. PROVINCE, 4/14).
