NIKE'S NEW GLOVE AFFAIR: BRUISER PAYTON FEATURED IN SEATTLE

          Sonics G and Nike endorser Gary Payton "finished first
     in polling" at NikeTown in Seattle earlier this month "to
     see who should replace" former Mariners CF Ken Griffey Jr.
     on the billboard that adorns NikeTown, according to Robert
     Nelson of the SEATTLE TIMES.  Nike execs "hope to unveil"
     Payton's billboard in "about a month."  Mariners SS Alex
     Rodriguez, also a Nike endorser, finished second, followed
     by Tiger Woods and Michael Jordan.  The news comes after
     reports that Payton had an altercation with teammate Vernon
     Maxwell at practice last week (SEATTLE TIMES, 3/31).
