MARKETPLACE ROUND-UP

Nike will "terminate its contract to provide hockey
equipment" to Brown Univ., "fearing the school might try to
make" the company "comply with guidelines set by" the
Workers Rights Consortium, which Brown "helped found" (AP,
3/31)....Having recently secured Galleryfurniture.com as the
title sponsor of the ATP Tour's Atlanta stop, SFX Sports is
now "exploring the idea of staging" a women's tennis event
     "alongside it" (ATLANTA CONSTITUTION, 3/31).
NASCAR: In Dallas, Richard Alm reports STP's "split"
from Petty Enterprises' No. 43 Pontiac "reflects a fact of
life on the racing circuit: Sponsor turnover." A "change in
corporate colors affected fully half of the 30 drivers who
took part" in all three Winston Cup races at TX Motor
Speedway since the track opened in '97. STP's move came
after Clorox acquired the brand last year, as the company
"plans to diversify the marketing" of STP. Clorox's Sandy
Sullivan: "Racing sponsorships are very expensive, and it
left us with little money for other advertising. Racing is
still critical to the equity of the brand, so we still will
be involved in racing. At this point, I don't know what it
will look like" (DALLAS MORNING NEWS, 3/31).
