FANTASY SPORTS, 101: PRIME SPORTS EXEC OFFERS GROWTH PLAN

Prime Sports Interactive President Dave Magdol was
interviewed by CNNfn's Tony Guida and discussed how he
"built a business around the fantasy sports phenomena."
Magdol: "We have two main products. The first is our
business-to-consumer product, which you go to Primesports.
net to play on your own. The other way is to go to
business-to-business clients, where we run games, for
example, for The Sporting News on their site ... It's a very
big market. We do have significant competitors in our
space, but we've got unique products within the fantasy
sports arena. ... The market is projected to be between 15-
30 million people. What people don't recognize, of the
people going on the Internet, 12% of Americans go online
once a week for sports content." Magdol, on the fantasy
games: "There are two models. One is a free model where the
consumer clearly doesn't pay anything, those are mass market
games. The other model is for much bigger prizes, where the
consumer pays a registration fee that ranges from $10-60 and
then pays either $1.50 or $2.50 every time he trades a
player. So we generate our revenue on the free model
through advertising revenue on the site ... and ... through
this registration revenue. ... We also produce a television
show that's been very helpful in driving traffic." Magdol,
on growth areas: "One is in really going out and spending a
good amount of advertising dollars and acquiring [new
users], being able to offer advertisers a lot of players in
these fantasy games who are very affluent ... also typically
male. ... The second way is go out and find sites, to run
games [for other businesses]" ("Entrepreneurs Only," 3/20).
