NO MERENGUE OR CHA-CHA ON THE GRASS AT TIGERS' NEW COPA

Workers at Comerica Park "have been warned: One step on
the vulnerable turf and they'll be taking a walk -- right
out of a job," according to Marty Hair of the DETROIT FREE
PRESS. But the "lure" of the new field "is too much for
some to resist," as three workers were fired last week "for
walking across the grass and onto the pitcher's mound."
Several others "had been sacked earlier" for stepping on the
grass after the sod was laid on a layer of sand in November.
Tigers officials said that all crews "have been warned this
was a firing offense" (DETROIT FREE PRESS, 3/18).
