HSBC TO GET NAMING RIGHTS JUST IN TIME FOR TOURNEY EXPOSURE

HSBC Bank announced this morning that it has reached
agreement on a naming rights deal that would change the name
of Marine Midland Arena to HSBC Arena. As part of the deal,
the naming rights contract with Adelphia Communications will
be extended for ten additional years, through 2006 (HSBC).
GOOD TIMING: In Buffalo, Rey & Warner report the deal
comes just prior to the arena hosting today's NCAA men's
basketball tournament East regional action. HSBC is
reportedly paying Adelphia Communications an "additional"
$9M to put its name on the building, and "in return, the
bank will have its naming rights to the arena extended to 30
years." While the deal "comes too late to replace" the
Marine Midland Arena lettering on the side of the building
before the tournament, new "banners have been made and an
HSBC Arena decal" will be on the court (BUFFALO NEWS, 3/17).
